Join Our Growing Children And Youth Ministry Program!
Sunday Morning Sunday School
We believe that “faith formation” for all ages begins at the cradle and continues our whole lives long, and that little children absorb far more than we know as they experience the sights, sounds, smells and sacraments of worship. So our youngsters are encouraged to be in worship for the first half of the service before heading off to Sunday School. We love and value our children in worship and in Sunday School all year!
Nursery Age
(3 years old and younger) receive nursery care with our regular nursery attendant and a church volunteer. Our attendant is on duty from 10:15 a.m. - 11: 45 a.m. each Sunday.
Pre-School Sunday School
(4-5 year olds) begin by attending worship with parents and mid-way through worship go to Sunday School. They receive a simple story, lesson and craft led by church volunteers followed by play time each Sunday.
Elementary -Sunday School
(6 years old through 6th grade) begin by attending worship with parents and mid-way through worship go to Sunday School. A small group of teachers rotate every 3-4 weeks, using story, music, arts and crafts!
Mustard Seed
The Mustard Seed Program is offered on Tuesday mornings, Fall, Winter and Spring and is a Pre-School Christian Education offered to children enrolled in our St. Paul’s Childhood Center program on a voluntary basis. Each Tuesday morning, two members of the congregation serve as teachers to these little ones, offering Sacred Stories from the Bible, songs, crafts and take home materials. This program begins again on September 14th.
Confirmation
The Confirmation program begins in Middle High and is a two year program. Confirmands attend worship, special learning sessions, retreats and field trips throughout the Fall, Winter and Spring. Summer Confirmation programming varies with special programming like retreats and mission trips. Confirmation Sunday is a high-point in the life of our youth and for the congregation!
Youth Group
The Youth Group meets twice a month with activities which include: service projects, field trips and fun activities. The Youth Group meets regularly during Fall, Winter and Spring with occasional gatherings, mission trips or Conference Regional and National events during the summer.
Sunday School Message from John Burrell:
This summertime, things were busy as ever at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. This summer, Sunday School temporarily moved into the Chapel and Bride’s Room and the children journeyed with Moses through Egypt— exploring the book of Exodus. Darrel Videen engaged the children with pottery projects as we taught them about what life was like in biblical times. Our Elementary Schoolers were involved in a mission project with Church World Services where we collected money and learned about life in places such as rural Kenya where children have to walk miles to school carrying heavy buckets of water.
On Friday July 9, approximately 25 adults and children from St. Paul’s UCC gathered at Dodge Nature Center for an Intergenerational Picnic sponsored by the Ministry of Faith Formation. Everyone had a great time hiking, socializing, and roasting hotdogs.
On Wednesdays, June 16, July 21, and August 18th we held Summer Activity Nights. This was for children from pre-K through 6th grade to learn a bible story, play a game, and do a craft project. All the children had a great time.
In August, Gail Westby and Darrel Videen helped me run a 5-day Egypt Adventure Camp for the children in the St. Paul Childhood Center. The children sang songs, learned bible stories, did crafts, and played games during this program. It culminated with an open house on Thursday, August 19 so that parents had the opportunity to see our church.
Rally Sunday—the day Fall Sunday School begins—is fast approaching on September 12. Until then, enjoy the last few weeks of summer!
