Journey of Faith | Indian Boarding Schools

Land Acknowledgement and Justice for Native Americans - A Lenten Series

March 23: Indian Boarding Schools

Worship | 5:30-6:00 pm (In Person and Zoom)
Dinner | 6:00-6:30 pm
Presentation | 6:30-7:20 pm (In Person and Zoom)

We will acknowledge the legacy of boarding schools, including the Church’s role in them, and the on-going trauma they have perpetuated. Our presenter will be Briana Matrious, a Tribal Community Facilitator with UM Extension and a member of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe. Briana leads workshops with both Native and non-Native groups that offer a deeper understanding of history and intergenerational trauma (in particular due to Indian Boarding Schools) and promote physical-emotional-spiritual healing. Acknowledging that this work is painful even for herself, she is committed to it because it gives her ancestors a voice today that was taken from them in years past.
