“Unholy Ghosts: The Racists Roots of our Faith and Politics”

MLK challenged us to investigate the "ideational roots of our hate," and that's what author Joel Edward Goza opens up for us in these films created around some of the themes in his book America's Unholy Ghosts. This will be a sacred time of spending time together learning more about our christian roots and where to go from here. The five-session series includes 8 conversation films with Joel, and a discernment and discussion guide with practices to consider, written by Danielle Fanfair.

Palm Sunday

Sunday, March 24 | 10:30 am

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. Our worship will center around the story of Jesus’ fraught but hopeful entry into Jerusalem. The day was tense and joyful, a juxtaposition of the anticipation of the long-awaited Messiah, and the dangerous reality that he was a threat to power. We will ground ourselves in the Spirit of the day, as it points us toward Christ’s passion and resurrection.

Maundy Thursday Supper

Thursday, March 28 | 6:00 - 7:15 pm | Narthex

Maundy Thursday is the night of Holy Week that we remember the last supper Jesus spent with the disciples, before he was betrayed and arrested. Our Maundy Thursday Supper will be served with delicious Palestinian food (including other child-friendly options) at tables set with traditional items. This is a sensory experience! We'll do some simple hand-washing with oil (instead of foot-washing), singing, and readings. This dinner is meant to be a child-friendly option to learn more about Holy Week.

Good Friday

Friday, March 29 | 7:00 pm

Good Friday worship will take us through the final words of Jesus with a dramatic service. The tone of worship will lead us to the betrayal, arrest, and death of Jesus with darkness, drumming, and stunning movement and music. It is a deeply emotional and participatory service.

Easter Egg Hunt

Saturday, March 30 | 10:00 - 11:30 am

The annual SPUCC community Easter Egg hunt is afoot! Bring yourselves, your friends, other young family members! All are invited to participate. There will be snacks, a craft to create, and so many eggs! Please bring a basket with you.

Easter Potluck Breakfast

Sunday, March 31 | 9:15 am | Fireside Room

You are invited to bring your favorite breakfast item to share with at least 20 people as we celebrate Easter. Please make sure to let us know what you'll be bringing by Friday, March 22nd. All are welcome!

Easter Sunday Worship

Sunday, March 31 | 10:30 am

Easter Sunday will include traditional brass instruments, joyous music, fragrant flowers, and the new life Christ offers in the resurrection. This is a meaningful day for Christians, and our worship will be festive and moving.
