Healing Through History Retreat

Healing Through History Retreat
LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT TASK FORCE
April 21 6:30-9pm, April 22 8:00am-12:30pm
Please contact David Weiss at drw59mn@gmail.com if you would like to attend.

Our objective is to explore and discuss important events specific to American Indian communities within Minnesota as well as learning some basic cultural components. Participants will leave with a better understanding of the impact of historical trauma today.

Our leader, Briana Matrious, works for the University of Minnesota Extension as a Tribal Community Facilitator. She is a part of the American Indian Resource and Resiliency Team which focuses on  increasing the capital recovery in Tribal communities. Prior to coming on board with Extension, Briana saw the major issues facing her community and was trained to facilitate healing workshops. These workshops have continued and help people understand historical and intergenerational trauma Tribal communities continue to face today. She is an advocate for mental health and is passionate about understanding history, trauma, healing the emotional and spiritual body, plant medicines, and overall wellness for the mind, body, and soul. Outside of her full time work, Briana is a part of the board for A Place for You, the homeless shelter in Pine City, and is the chairwoman for the Mille Lacs Band Department of Athletic Regulation.
