World Cafe -- A forum for dialogue, reflection and response toward Creation Justice
Topic: Earth Day - Past, Present & Future
Earth Day turns 52 this year. So does Earth Overshoot Day. That is, it's now been 52 years since we started consuming more of Earth's resources each year than the planet can replenish for the next year. More bluntly: for more than half a century now we've been "stealing" Earth's bounty from future generations.
On April 20 at Journey of Faith, David Weiss will look back on an Earth Day talk he gave 24 years ago while at Notre Dame titled, "Consuming the Earth in Search of our Worth." This year, speaking right in between Easter and Earth Day, he's calling his reflections, "Between Easter and Earth Day — What Dare We Hope?"
At this next World Cafe, we'll continue mulling the questions David will raise that evening: What does "overshoot" mean for us as persons of faith? And how do we form Christian faith that meets this moment of Earth crisis with courage and grace.
World Cafe is an open forum, and all are invited. Minimal structure is provided; just an Active Hope-influenced agenda and a brief presentation about the suggested topic. Then, like a conversation in a café, attendees are given time and space to meet and talk in smaller groups. Please join us in person for these rich conversations and learning (Zoom will be an option, if you prefer).
