Fight Climate Change at Home and at Church
Compost Right!
EARTHWISE CREATION JUSTICE
According to Project Drawdown, about one-third of the solutions needed to stop climate change are best implemented at the household or family level. THAT MEANS YOU! And what is a simple and high impact way you can fight climate change? Reducing your food waste and taking any food that is wasted to a compost center.
Composting is a form of organics recycling. Organics recycling (offered by the City of St Paul) and utilized by our church is when facilities collect and process organic materials (that would otherwise be landfilled or incinerated) into new products, such as soil amendments. By composting our food scraps, we can return those nutrients and carbon to the soil to improve soil quality, support plant growth and build resilience in our local ecosystems and communities. Benefits of composting include reducing methane emissions from landfills and reducing waste.
At our church, it is especially important for each of us to put our compostable material in the RIGHT BIN, because our church gets fined often for having non-compostable materials in our compost bins. This is important, and we need to all be mindful of our waste. Be sure to put your food waste and dishes (the plates, cups and napkins used at the church are all compostable) into the green compost bins. And please do not put other waste into those bins!
Thank you for helping our earth and our church!
