Faithful Hospitality Volunteer Opportunity

SOCIAL JUSTICE & OUTREACH
Our community partner, Interfaith Action of Greater St. Paul, has a new program called Faithful Hospitality. Asylum seeker families (families only) come through Hennepin County and are assigned to this program. Families stay overnight in churches and go to school, work, and resource programs during the day. Gus Avenido's wife, Deb, is a member at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Como, and is wondering if we would like to volunteer to be overnight hosts there in January or February.

Details: Two volunteer hosts stay at the church each night from 7:00 pm - 7:00 am (weekdays) and 7:00 pm - 8:00 am on Saturdays and Sundays. The hosts are responsible for serving a light snack (provided) and being a friendly, caring presence and someone to connect with if there's a problem. There is a Faithful Hospitality staff person who meets you at the beginning of the shift for a few minutes and a staff person on call as well. We have 2 private comfortable sleeping rooms (one with a double bed if a couple volunteers ☺️). So far guests have been Spanish-speaking and Google translate apps on our phones have worked pretty well.

You have to do a quick application, first: https://www.tfaforms.com/4934671
1) fill out the volunteer application, 2) watch the 20 min. training video
3) then click on the Sign-Up Genius to pick an evening
