You Belong In the Sanctuary Choir
If you love to sing, there is nothing better than to share that love with your community. Being part of the choir allows you to connect with others who have a passion for choral music, and to offer that gift to listeners seeking to connect with something larger. When we sing together, we synchronize our breath, our heartbeats, and our intentions in an expression that brings us closer to each other and our faith on a deep level. It is an experience like no other!
Our Sanctuary Choir has experienced a decline in membership in the years since the pandemic, and we are in need of new voices if we want to continue our tradition of four-part singing. We especially need new members in our tenor and bass sections. In order to function as a strong section, each part needs at least four voices, and we have dwindled to only ONE volunteer member in our tenor and bass sections. They would love some company! Of course, new altos and sopranos will also be joyfully welcomed.
If you have been on the fence about joining the choir, let me convince you:
Not sure if you are a good enough singer? The remedy for that is to join the choir! Membership in the choir allows you to build your skills gradually, with vocal support from our section leaders at every step. As with any skill, it takes time to master, and regular practice is the key. If you sing every week, you will surely improve your voice, your ear, and your musicianship. As your confidence grows, so will your enjoyment!
Not sure you want to commit to coming to church every single week? Most of our choir members have to miss occasionally. If you are in church at least a couple of times every month, sing whenever you are available. Or commit to singing only during Advent/Christmas or Lent/Easter, when the services are music-heavy and we could use more voices.
Worried that our parties are too much fun? That one is legit. They are way too much fun. If you hate good food and party games with delightful people, you should probably stay home.
Participating in the music ministry at SPUCC is a wonderful way to support the church, make new friends, learn beautiful songs, and experience worship from a new perspective.
Our first choir rehearsal will be Wednesday, September 3rd at 7:30 p.m. in the choir room.
I hope to see you there!
Yours in song,
Judith Melander
Director of Music Ministry
